SheloyaI am a practitioner of a mixture of Gnostic, Native American, and West African belief systems.  So all of my items are made according to old and new traditions and standards.  Because my approach to these things is esoteric/metaphysical, they are built for both spiritual and psychological effect, as I believe that they are either interconnected or the same.  So when you buy from me, you’re buying the real thing, thoughtfully made.
You can read more about my spirituality and learn about spiritual counseling at my site SoulMindBody.net.

I sell both my own works as well as those of fellow local artists, craftspeople, and makers of mystical items in Israel.  I also like to offer things for which the markup is way too high elsewhere, but it’s more reasonably priced here.

I have many interests aside of making mystical jewelry.  I started out making little crystal hugging Goddess pendants back in 1993, and used to work for the Psychic Friends Network as a tarot reader until they began pressuring us to ask for too much personal information from callers.  When I moved to Israel, I started up my business again, but the war with Lebanon killed most of the local small businesses that I worked with.

At the time, I didn’t have the energy or patience to start it up again.  I was hypothyroid, 35 kg. (about 77 lbs.) heavier than I am now, and giving up on doing more than webmastering and teaching online courses.  Add that to relationship stresses and, to be frank, I was in a pretty pathetic state.

I was getting very sick every year.  It was normal that I’d end up in the hospital for some reason or another every winter.  I’d either get pneumonia or tonsilitis like clockwork.  It should have been a clue for me that herbal remedies and prayer always got me through it, but when your brain is clouded, you don’t make what ought to be the logical conclusions.  I followed the conventional doctors’ advice about my diet and exercise, and managed not to gain more weight after topping off at about 280 lbs. but I was still not thriving.  Still, I thought this was my fate…my cross to bear, and I may as well make the best of it because I really was doing the best I could with the information I had.

Then, a few years ago, I got the grippa.  It’s something like a flu times ten, and some people die from it.  I thought I was going to be one of them, so I started settling my affairs.  Because food was one of my pleasures in life, even though I couldn’t eat a bite, I watched the Food Channel while I waited to die.  A show came on that changed my life.  It was Cooking Thin by Chef Kathleen Daelemans.

On this show, I saw things I’d never seen before.  She was working with people without insulting them about their weight.  She was cooking with butter.  She had nothing against meat.  She wasn’t counting calories.  It was just something to keep in mind but not obsess over.  I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.  It was totally contrary to anything we’re normally told by the so-called heath experts.  She was legitimately concerned about the state of people’s health, and the weight loss was more of a side effect of being healthier overall.

So I looked deeper into the matter, and came across the Weston A. Price Foundation.  The message was clear, that someone like me with health problems was not only dying from the “typical western diet”.  It’s what’s normally called a “healthy diet” that was making my life miserable, and keeping me from being fit at all, aside of keeping me from losing weight.  If I kept filling my body with half synthetic junk labelled as healthy, I was going to live miserably and likely die of diabetes and/or liver failure.

Cooking SlimSo Christmas dinner that year was my big conversion day.  In 2000 I went natty with my hair.  In 2008 I and my family went natty with our stomachs.  Getting back to our dietary roots is just as important as getting back to our spiritual roots.  I’ll go a step further and say that it is a necessary step in the process.

It’s so important to me that I made my own website about it, CookingSlim.org

Now, it’s not just an incidental point of data that Oshun likes wild lettuce.  I know now that the reason why she does is because it is good for you and keeps your bones healthy for dancing, and your skin glowing.  Shango’s love of spicy food isn’t just because he’s the Orisha of fire.  It’s because it helps to keep a man’s blood circulating, especially in the parts a man needs it to. ;-)

I say all this to make it clear that a natural diet is the reason Sheloya Mystical exists.  Were it not for this, I wouldn’t have the energy to start this business up again.  So I am thankful to Sakpata, the Orisha of contagious diseases, for knocking some sense into me.  It is a shame that he had to kick me every year for almost 13 years to do it, but I’m a stubborn child.
